DC Candlelighters hosted its 6th annual Halloween extravaganza in the employee garage at the Inova Schar Cancer Institute on October 25th. This year, we were joined by 15 outside organizations which provided activities, games and treats for over 45 families with a child with cancer, including 112 children and 95 adults.
A special thank you to our partners who joined us this year:
- 501st Legion and the Spectre 8 Rebel Legion Freedom Base provided Star Wars characters
- Alex’s Army had Minion’s who danced with the kids
- Balloons by Mike provided handmade balloon animals
- Blood Cancer United (formerly LLS) and Young Hearts Cancer Foundation sponsored Mario Kart games
- Centreville HS Wildcats vs. Cancer Club helped the kids make bracelets and provided volunteers that helped set-up and take down the lights and decorations and also “manned” various stations during the event.
- CJ’s Pediatric Promise helped the kids make masks
- Hope Cam provided volunteers that helped set-up and take down the lights and decorations and also “manned” various stations during the event.
- Iridium sponsored a candy corn toss game and bowling
- Silly Shotz Photobooth Company took photos of the kids and their families
- Social4Good raised funds to sponsor the event, providing popcorn and apple cider donuts from Cox Farms for the families, treat bags, and treats and prizes for all of the Candlelighter’s themed stations including the Disney Princesses, Nightmare Before Christmas, Knight and Dragon Tales, Coco, Hocus Pocus Witches, Spiderman, Alien Area 51, Pirate’s Den, Haunted Forest, and a Fortune Teller. They also provided volunteers that helped set-up and take down the lights and decorations and also “manned” various stations during the event.

- Systems Plus, Inc. allowed the kids to created their own AI Creature by computer
- Unison sponsored the game Plinko
